Certification Pathways & Annual Requirements

Dive Sask coaches are certified under the NCCP (National Coach Certification Program) which is governed by the Coaching Association of Canada.

Interested in being a coach?  Wondering what courses you  need?

Depending on who you will primarily be coaching, you should aim for the following level of certification:

  • Coaching Recreational athletes – Instruction Beginner
  • Coaching Novice and Pre Comp athletes – Competition Introduction
  • Coaching National and HP athletes – Competition Development

For every certification level, you must complete the following steps to certification:

  1. Take the workshop – 1 or 2 weekends.  You are now considered TRAINED
  2. Comp Int Coaches over 18:  Annually complete the DPC Registration process which will be emailed to you, including uploading a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check every 3 years AND a DPC Waiver annually.  Your club can provide you with the necessary DPC waiver.  You are now eligible to coach in Canada.
  3. Instruction Beginner Coaches over 18:  Annually complete the Dive Sask Registration form which will be emailed to you, including submitting Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check every 3 years AND a DPC waiver every year.  Your club can provide you with the necessary DPC waiver.
  4. Complete the Saskatchewan Respect in Sport online module (once only for IB, every 3 years for CI).  You are now eligible to coach in Saskatchewan.  See below for login instructions.
  5. Complete the Safe Sport Training module found on the Coaching Assoc of Canada website
  6. To continue your certification process, you must be evaluated by a Dive Sask evaluator – including completing any assignments, workbooks, etc
  7. Take the MED Online module for the appropriate level.  You are now considered CERTIFIED
  8. Maintain your certification by earning Professional Development points each year – the number of points you need depends on your level.  See the charts below.
  9. Follow your certification, update your information and track your PD points at the Locker

Coach Screening Policy

In April 2024 the Board of Directors ratified the Safe Sport Policy as mandated by Sask Sport, DPC and Sport Canada. In keeping with the requirements of this policy, all Saskatchewan coaches must now be screened annually.

Comp Dev and Comp Intro Coaches will be screened by DPC by submitting the following:

  • Declaration Form
  • Disclosure Form
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Criminal Record Check (E-Pic) every 3 years

Instruction Beginner Coaches and Coach helpers, except for minors, will be screened by Dive Sask by submitting the following:

  • Declaration Form
  • Disclosure Form
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Criminal Record Check (E-Pic) every 3 years

Instruction Beginner Coaches and Coach helpers who are minors must submit the following to Dive Sask:

  • Youth Declaration Form

All Saskatchewan Coaches must also complete Respect in Sport for Activity Leaders (see below) and Safe Sport Training.

Respect in Sport

In Saskatchewan, coaches of ALL sports are required to take the Respect in Sport online module.  See below for details of the Dive Sask Respect in Sport policy and to login.


Post Secondary Scholarship

Active Saskatchewan Diving coaches are eligible to apply for a scholarship to assist with post-secondary education costs.  4 scholarships of $500 will be awarded each year.  Download application instructions below.
